About Speaker Amy Purdy

Keynote Speaker Amy Purdy is a 3X Paralympic Medalist, NYT bestselling author, model, actress and the Founder of Adaptive Action Sports. She is a prime example of someone who’s not let life’s challenges dictate her future. On the contrary, she embraces life for what it is and all it can be.

Amy was an active teenager who loved exploring the outdoors growing up in Nevada. At 19, she began to experience flu-like symptoms and was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bacterial meningitis. The disease forced doctors to remove her spleen, both kidneys, and amputate her legs from the knee down. Doctors gave her a 2% chance of survival.

Not only did Amy survive, she thrived. Amy was back on her snowboard using her new prosthetic legs 7 months after surgery. She went on to represent the United States at the Paralympic Games in 2014 and 2018, bringing home a silver and 2 bronze medals. During this time she also served as a spokesperson for several organizations including the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and Freedom Innovations. She is one of the most commercially successful paralympic athletes in the world appearing in ads for companies including Toyota, Pfizer, Kelloggs, Coca-Cola and others.

In 2oo5, Amy co-founded Adaptive Action Sports with her husband. The non-profit gives kids with physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in action sports as well as art and music. Outside of the action sports world, Amy has also competed on Dancing With The Stars (runner-up) and The Amazing Race.

Perhaps her crowning moment as a keynote speaker came when she appeared alongside Oprah Winfrey as a part of Oprah’s The Life You Want Tour in 2014. That same year, she published her bestselling book called On My Own Two Feet. A must read! Her 2014 TedxTalk has over 2 million views and counting.

Amy has said her motivation is not to inspire, but rather to do things that inspire her and hopefully that will spread to others. This might puzzle most people considering she is a motivational speaker. But there is so much power in those words. If we’re not doing things that inspire us personally, how can we expect to motivate and inspire others?

We will all face adversity and challenges in life. Amy motivates audiences to not let those challenges define them and live life beyond limits.
