About Speaker Anthony Fauci
Keynote Speaker Anthony Fauci is America’s leading expert on infectious diseases. He is currently the Director of the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He is a lead member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force addressing the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.
Anthony’s career as a public health servant has spanned over 50 years. He is the son of a pharmacist and earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He commits his life to saving others through research and development of vaccines and emergency plans to combat dangerous diseases. The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic thrust Anthony into the limelight as a voice of education and reason during a very alarming time in American history.
Anthony got his start in public health as a clinical associate for the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation at the NIAID. He then went on to serve as the Head of the Clinical Physiology Section before being appointed Chief of the Laboratory of Immunoregulation. In 1984, he took his current position as Director of NIAID.
Anthony’s important contributions to public health safety are wide-ranging. As an immunologist, he leads U.S. efforts to understand and combat viral diseases such as HIV/AIDS, the 2009 swine flu pandemic, Ebola and SARS among others. Anthony was instrumental in the development of biodefense drugs and vaccines following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Additionally, his scientific observations are crucial to the understanding of the human immune response.
